The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
